Nice review, I haven't really had the issue that you had with Ascent of the Overlord. Every game taht we have played the Overlord has lost, even in the hands of the most experienced player (though in all honesty, we are all around the same skill level.)

The Quest for Power is actually my favorite scenario now, I recommend that you give it a second go. It has all of the fun PvP focus without the player elimination that Rune Wars has.

I envy you your command of Rune Age - I myself haven't found the right people who want to play it enough to make me proficient, or even more than passingly familiar with, the base game. The expansion sounds interesting, and I will probably pick it up at some point, but first I have to feel that I've played the base game enough to justify its purchase, and so far, that is far from the case. :soblue:

In all honesty, with the new units, races, and the mercenary cards. I wouldn't wait on the expansion. It's something I recommend to players who are just now buying the original. It just adds so much.
