I would like to share some of my experience with you. Perhaps it will help. I am a former Magic the Gathering player. I still have all my cards and would love to play, but as I got older, got a career, family, etc. I just didn't really have the time or money. This year at Gen Con, I picked the game up on a whim. I have really been wanting to play another card game, and after seeing a lot of people mention LCGs as viable strategic card games with a better pricing format, I decided to pull the trigger. I picked Game of Thrones.
I, like many others, love Game of Thrones. So when I started playing the game, I loved how it "made sense". All of the decks really play how each family corresponds in the book and show. It has really added to my enjoyment of the game. It was a little difficult getting started, but I just watched the great FFG tutorial vid, asked questions on here, and I was off to the races teaching my friends and family, who really like it as well.
The multiplayer titles add to multiplayer games. It adds some diversity and strategy. The game plays excellently 1v1 or with up to 4 players. I just really like the diversity of this game. A few things I don't like are that the games can be long and to be honest, I really thing you should buy two core sets to get the decks up to snuff. Don't get me wrong, you can play with one core set, but in hindsight, two core sets really made all 4 decks more enjoyable.
I hope you get into the game. There is a great community around the game and everyone in these GoT BGG forums have been very patient and super helpful with my questions with the game. Hope this wall of text helps!
