Thread: The Resistance: Avalon:: Rules:: By just looking at the rules, I'm 100% sure killing Merlin to win is a fatal flaw. (modification suggestions)

usually we play with 8 persons, that's the best number in my opinion. So 5 of them are good, how hard is it to find Merlin in 5 persons? Even wild guessing would give the evil free 20%(even higher with less people) bonus chance to win, is that fair?

And after the good side finishes the game with all the strategy and efforts, the evils can just discuss and choose a person to kill and win? WTF, in real game it would give at least 40% more chance for evils to win (Merlin need to do things and reveal his identity one way or another).

When newbies get Merlin I think it is the end of the game. And what's funny about this kind of game is, you can never redraw to make the other people Merlin, because now evil knows even better who to kill. Just Suck It!

Here are some modification suggestions (very immature, open to discussion):

1. The assassin only gets a chance to kill Merlin at the beginning of the 4th round. No discussion! Only decided by the assassin him/herself (Or other evils can risk to give hint in his own discuss phase before assassin decided to perform the murder). If Merlin is chosen, then evil wins, if not, nobody dies, game keep on going with one of the evil revealed. Don't worry about Merlin getting too wild after that, anybody can claim him/herself as Merlin.

In this way, killing the Merlin is no longer a "free gift", and 4th round needs two "failure" to lose, it becomes a big trade-off on the evil side.

2. Only when the good side wins the whole game in 3 rounds or 4 rounds (too simple or lucky on the good side), the assassin can perform the murder to turn the game. Still no discussion on the evil side!! Just assassin's own choice.

In this way the game can get balanced in luck aspect, sometimes the game is quite simple when you choose all the right guys in the first round.

Any other suggestions please join the discussion!
