He is pretty good too at Chaos in the Old World, and I don't know if this has to do with forgetting theme and mini-maxing. Or maybe the theme on Chaos is cool, but it doesn't affect in any way your strategy (I haven't seen anyone saying: It would be nice for me to kill your cultist, but I'm not Khorne, so I'd prefer leaving the area...).
I can tell you that I am very much a theme first player, so much so that it was one of the reason I feel CitOW bombed for me. Being a long-time WH reader (and player), I know the backstories. Yet in this game, the Chaos Gods has just a bunch of hippie followers as all the VP are tied to Ruination/corruption and Cultists are the method to get them, so why bother with Warriors/GDs? Thus it ended up with almost no combat as apart from Khorne, points are better spent on Cultists and cards that actively contribute toward VP. These Gods that have been waging eternal war but now there is no point in killing each others' followers?
Another problem is we, as the heroes, can't usually agree on what is our best strategy (in Last Night on Earth, I focus on searching before fighting, the rest of the heroes prefer to go wild for the objective and rely on luck, etc.). I remember the dwarf player wasting his heroic feat. on a stupid situation, but what can you do then? After arguing, the dwarf player was very stubborn and did not yield. The Overlord knows us very well and knows exactly how to make benefit of a divided hero party (provoking one, going for the weak points another one left by not agreeing on the best move, etc.).
Yeah, I can definately see the issue here (current D2 PBF I'm in has been civil so far in this regard, "waves to Dexter" :p ). Luckily (or not), I'm mainly 2-player for these 1 vs many games (like Descent, LNoE, Mansions of Madness), with one player running multiple heroes.
