I tried to follow past conversation about Hydras battling back, but didn't feel I got a clear answer. My question is this. If a Hydra is attacked and, for example, goes down from three heads (not double-heads) to one, does it battle back with a reduced attacks to represent that damage?
I'd have completely assumed that the answer is yes. So, in the above case, it would battle back with 2D whereas it would have battled back with 4D if it hadn't just lost two heads.
However people have argued that battle backs are simultaneous. One justification given is the old Clansmen rules in Command and Colors: Ancients (the ancients version of BattleLore). These apparently suggest that the +1D that Clansmen benefit from until damaged is retained even if they're battling back after just being knocked down from full health.
On that note, does this mean that Dwarf Clansmen in BattleLore do retain their +1D for fighting until damaged even if they've gone down from full health in this melee and are battling back? My own sense would be that they don't.
Thanks for any help as always!
