Thanks for this review, it's exactly what I've been waiting for. From what you describe, the quality of the tiles and cards don't justify the steep retail price. I have one ordered at a FLGS but I'm going to have to give serious thought to trying before I buy, and if I do buy, going online to find a price that matches the quality you indicate.

The lack of any kind of insert is also disheartening.

I sympathize, but there are way more variables than a game's included components that dictate its MSRP. Art costs usually figure hugely, and most important of all is the print run size. Companies like FFG and Days of Wonder can offer lower costs for games with lots of nice components because their print runs allow the per unit cost to drop considerably. But most game publishers simply can't do that. I haven't played M&M yet, but I'm excited to do so, and I'm not at all surprised by the cost. (I do agree with your point about the lack of an via insert, though.)
