Dale,
One thing to know is that the quest book is supposed to be open to all players. Your OL should let you read the quest book.

Others disagree with this, but I think 3 heroes is better then 4 in general. With 3 the OL only gets 1 of the big monsters instead of two. More room to maneuver.

You get to pick your heroes. Pick carefully. The same goes for skills. You want heroes/skills that work together.

Between players of equal skill, Descent becomes a real tactical dogfight.

Between players of unequal skill, or in a group with bad group think, Descent becomes a boring blow out.

Not all quests are balanced. In general if playing a campaign, the heroes can pick the easier quests and win every quest, or they can lose the first quest and then lose every quest. As the hero player, I feel I am walking a tightrope. One mistake and it all falls down. I enjoy this play experience. It is not for everyone.
