Thread: Mage Knight Board Game:: General:: Finally "beat" Solo Conquest

Played my 6th game today (with the "slight" distraction of watching my Packers in the background) and actually beat it - admittedly on the "children's version" if I may say so.

After 5 tries at Solo Conquest with full strength cities using Norwas, I decided to change things up a bit. Based on suggestions here, I cranked the cities down to 2 and 3 respectively. I played with Tovak and used Goldyx as Dummy.

The White City came first followed by the blue. I had just enough cards left for my last turn in round 6 (after beating the Blue City) so that I was able to move to the monastery and do some healing.

Final Score was 115. My character was a level 6. I wound up with 1 Spell, 1 Artifact (only my second in 6 plays), and 3 Advanced Actions. I captured two Keeps, knocked over a Mage Tower, and fought one Orc and two Draconium along the way. I recruited 3 units. (Drawing a blank on exactly who but I had Herbalists and a couple of "fighter" class units.)

I still find myself in situations that I'm not sure how to get out of: Surrounded by bad terrain, nasty Rampaging Monsters in the direction I want to go, not enough movement to go around or enough attack to go through. Plenty of influence though... If only I could charm the socks off of those Frost Dragons with my good looks I'd have it made. Alas, I'm not particularly good looking even by Frost Dragon standards.

My fear of taking wounds is lessened, but I find I have a hard time leveling up to the point that I have a decent hand limit. Once I get to 6 or 7 cards in my hand (when I'm near one of my keeps) I feel like I can maneuver. Before that I feel very suffocated in my choices. Add in wounds and I feel like I'm bogged down in a quagmire.

On the plus side, the more I play, the easier it is to decide which skills and Advanced Actions to take at level-up time. In my first few plays I would choose the ones that seemed "less useless than the others," but the more I play, the more I choose ones that are "more useful than the others."

I'm going to read through the tips again, and have another go at it. Just wanted to celebrate my first victory!
