Actually, that is my approach. I am not going to take offence if someone uses the word "niggardly." I do however think that those using the word need to accept the common misconceptions about the word rather than throw the dictionary in the face of their readers/listeners. If they can't handle the completely obvious baggage the word comes with, then they too should not use the word. That's all I'm really arguing about here.
