The encounters are expecting you to be a particular level (or within 1 of it) it seems from what I have played. If you have Tabletop Simulator, you can play through the whole first act.As for difficulty, I think it can be a little swingy depending on the boss, card draw, turn order etc. But it comes down to working with what comes up. Each scenario has a standard objective and a "bonus" objective. The bonuses are more challenging. The second scenario was way harder than the first and required some much better planning.
It is definitely not a Gloomhaven - it is much simpler with an intended playtime of around 45 minutes per scenario and is quick to setup/takedown. This is one of the things that really attracted me to it as it means that it is so much easier to fit into an evening.
