Oh Mother*#$&!, I just looked at the cypher again and somehow just missed those 5 words. I also mistranslated the 7 (as a 6) to start with, because after staring at the cypher for 20 minutes to decipher the first bit, my eyes just couldn't handle it anymore. (I got corrective eye surgery earlier this year, and lost my ability to focus close with that eye - plus I'm feeling the effects of being over 40!)
I have to agree that the deciphering of the text before getting to the puzzle was unnecessary, just time-consuming rather than interesting -- and it ground the game to a halt for way longer than pleasant. [/o]
We decided to restart at level one, so my Diviner has only two teleport cards, meaning getting around the board is quite painful (I can get in and off a pressure plate only once per round).
[o]We also thought that it might be a goal revealed within the chest - but you had to solve the puzzle first - we were unlucky enough not to have opened the room with the 2 chests in it. So our SECOND play through, we decided I should just go in and keep working on the puzzle until we got it. I never did. After about 6 more attempts (I tried twice the previous game), trying increasingly desperate entries, we gave up and looked through the book.
Yes, it's additional content, but that wasn't obvious to us, and we've now spent two LONG sessions without passing the level. And we only have time for one session per week.
I guess on the bright side, since I was level 1, the loot card was actually one of my better ones![/o]
