Every two years, my partner and I take a trip to Disney World with my best friend and his wife. This trip, we capped our last night there by playing Villainous. Had to wipe off all that good guy magic, you know?My girlfriend played as Jafar, best friend was Malificent, I was Queen of Hearts, and his wife was Ursula. First three had one play under the belt, wife's first time.
I think the wife was expecting a kids game...this is not really a kids game. There is a decent amount of strategy. I tried to help her as best I could.
Malificent eventually got her four curses out, and just had to survive a round. I used a fate card against her, but drew something useless (Sword of...Truth?...but there were no heroes to wield it. Then his wife went and drew a card to eliminate a curse. Then my gf went and somehow managed to eliminate two of Mal's curses, leaving one green fire over his best location, which he eventually had to move back to and extinguished it. 4/4 to 0/4... Savage.
After a bit Jafar had the lamp and the genie out. Iago was as well. She armed Iago with a scimitar and I was like watch out! The bird has a knife! That got some laughs. Eventually Jafar hypnotized the genie and had the lamp at the palace and had to survive a round. Mal was able to play Abu to steal the lamp and thwart Jafar. However, on Jafar's next turn, he murdered Abu and took the lamp back.
But it didn't matter as the Queen had four Cards out, and two were Wickets. On my turn I was able to play a card to flip two cards to Wickets (now having four) and also Take the Shot, which I successfully made to win the game.
What about Ursula? Well, I am not sure she enjoyed herself. This didn't really feel like her cup of tea. I think she felt uneasy and confused the whole time, but really she did pretty well. She had found the trident and the king, had a contract on him, but I removed that w a fate card. By the end another contract was on him, but didn't get a chance to trigger. So she was knocking on the door of halfway there (still needed the crown).
Overall, an excellent nightcap on a wonderful week in Disney. See ya real soon!
