A new version of the Magic Realm Quick Reference Cards is now available for downloading. The earlier version of this file, QuickRef31.pdf, was originally developed for a group of expert players and omitted items that they had memorized, such as the Fame & Notoriety values of the various monsters. The new Magic Realm Tutorial Project recommends that beginners download these reference cards, so I thought that I should update them so that they will be more useful for new players. The added material makes this new file six pages long (the original file was only four pages long).The specific changes/additions (listed by page) are:
* Movement - no changes
* Combat - no changes
* Monsters - "Monster Appearance" updated to show clearing numbers for red Sound chits; "Sites" all new; "Monsters" all new
* Natives - "Native Groups" greatly expanded with much more detail
* Magic - no changes
* Etc. - "Treasure Counters" all new; "Armor" all new; "Horse Trading" all new; "Visitor Prices" all new
In addition to the above changes, the charts & tables that are only used with certain optional rules now have a gray heading bar rather than a black heading bar, which makes them easier to ignore if you are not using those optional rules.
Much of the information on these reference cards is, of course, available in the rulebook itself, and some of it can also be found on the various redesigned counters that have been created for Magic Realm. You may, however, find that in many cases these Quick Reference Cards are the fastest and easiest way to access the information that you need to play Magic Realm. They also provide some items that are not available anywhere else, such as the comprehensive chart of die roll probabilities and the Missile Table with all results pre-calculated.
