Turn 3: Wasting Time

Turn 3. Mythos Phase: +1 doom on agenda (2/3). WA draws Ghoul Minion, which engages her in the Attic. RB draws Crypt Chill (3 vs. 4) and draws -1. Fails test and discards previously played Machete. Not good.

Turn 3. Investigation Phase:

WA (goes first) actions:
1/ Plays Backstab and pays 3 resources. Fights Ghoul Minion (4 vs. 2). Draws auto-fail...

It was my understanding that you must first address what happens in the Mythos Phase before you can move on to the Investigation Phase. As such, any encounter cards drawn must be dealt with, meaning for instance, enemies attack immediately and you must fight. So how is it you are sometimes choosing to not address an enemy until later in the Investigate Phase? Certainly this is easier because you can play a card that may help you (increase combat or increase willpower for instance) before you choose to engage. But it doesn't seem to me from the rules that that is how you play. For me, Roland kept getting hit with horror because I didn't have anything in my Assets area to help him which I should have added in my previous round.

If I'm misunderstanding this, please enlighten me. I am newbie. 🙂
