I'm still tweaking my deck (a Ldr/Lore with only 1 core), but it definitely took a few games of coop (all 3 scenarios) and several solo tromps through through passage through mirkwood before I managed to get tromped in the second quest card of JDtA.Since then I have beaten it solo (single-deck style) with my Ldr/Lore and my Tactics/Spirit decks, though it was a struggle.
My main goal was to try and get a Steward of Gondor to throw on Denethor (btw, Aragorna and Gloin were my other two) and forest snare the Hill troll, using my one mllligan and praying. While it did take many attempts, I finally powered through.
The key takeaway is that it took some before I not only built a successful deck, but was able to play effectively and know when to take risky actions (such as undefended attacks).
