I won my first 2 plays of this one and thought it was a dirt easy scenario but now a few weeks later I've been trying it with a combination of Thalin, Dunhere and Eowyn (no healing, good questing, good threat management, decent combat) and have been finding it a quite hard nut to crack. I think I've lost about 10 games in a row - really should move on, but I'm obsessed with beating it twice in a row with my deck.I'm starting to think that my deck is good but my overall strategy is bad. I've been trying to maximize the number of clues I control and the Hunters From Mordor always ruin my game. Take them out of the encounter deck and I'll win every time. I usually approach the end game with 3 or 4 Clues and the hunters get a crazy 10 threat/10 damage which is pretty much impossible to deal with.
So lately I've been thinking about tossing extra clues into the discard pile as often as possible once I have one of them. Yes, I'm more vulnerable to a few treacheries, but it keeps the Hunters at a manageable 4 threat, 4 damage.
I try to get my clue in stage 1 when I can scry the encounter deck more effectively and then try to quest through stage two as quickly as possible. Stage 3 doesn't worry me so much, because the rate of encounters slows enormously once I get there.
