Good evening from Sky Kingdom Games!
In this entry we will cover a brief overview of Forteller - a special companion application that's an optional add-on for The Isofarian Guard.
When designing The Isofarian Guard - we wanted to create a very special experience. Many of our team members grew up playing video games long before we ever got into playing and designing boardgames. Part of what made some of our favorite games special and immersive was incredible and beautiful music.
When we began creating the vast world of Telios we wanted to make it come alive with music. Isofar, one of the countries in Telios is in the far northeastern area of the continent. There's a vast snowy mountainous area in the north and sweeping plains in the south. The music and sound of the people there had to have a distinct sound and feel.

Our team previously had music composed for The Stonebound Saga, and we definitely wanted to continue that with The Isofarian Guard. What we didn't plan for was to have the voices of our characters come alive with voice acting!
Our team discovered the work of Forteller on Facebook as they were working on narration for Gloomhaven. We were blown away by the quality of the voice acting, narration, and sound effects. Instantly, we knew this was what The Isofarian Guard needed to complete the immersive experience we were aiming for.
After several discussions our teams began crafting plans to have a completely voice acted narration of the storyline including a musical score that was composed to fit around the narration itself. After a few sessions we knew this was going to be something very special.

The voice actors working on this project have done a superb job capturing the emotion and personalities of the characters. Many of these actors have done work for large productions, tv shows, and more. We also have some fantastic talent doing vocals for the soundtrack like Julie Elven who has sung on games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Horizon Zero Dawn and more!
So what's Forteller? Here's the overview from their website:
"Maybe you love board games with lots of lore, but let’s face it; taking the time to read through cards, booklets, or other forms of a scripted story can interrupt the flow of your game. You didn’t come to the table to read pages and pages of text…no matter how good the story is!
Enter Forteller. Our job is to provide the full immersion you're looking for in a table top experience. So how do we do that? We use our platform to deliver high-quality audio recordings—including dramatic narration, hair-raising sound effects and music that really sets the scene—to give you a more engaging experience as you play a game with your friends."
Forteller will be providing the complete narration of The Isofarian Guard through their companion application. The application will not only provide the narration to players while playing, but also provide several gameplay enhancing elements as well. These include saving your location in the story, giving prompts when the story has branching paths, and even tracking your game time so you can see how long you've played in each session of the game!
Listen to the third scene from the opening campaign here:

Forteller is an optional element of the game - as The Isofarian Guard can be completely played without the application by simply using the campaign books provided in the game. We will also have the full soundtrack available for those that still want to experience the sound of the game without the narration aspect.
We are very excited to share this project with you on September 10th.
