What if you could spend a clue to turn one of your dice into a success? To be honest, no one's going to waste a clue on a reroll, and they're rare enough that spending them in this way won't unbalance the game.
It would be a huge advantage for Trish and Norman, for starters. I suspect a lot of potential unforeseen consequences, but anyone who wants to try it, I’d love to hear how it goes.
What about 1 clue to reroll, as normal, and two to make 1 success?
Maybe?
I just realized you are the same person who posted about playing this game for the first time a little over a week ago. If you haven't tried Focus yet, that might give you what you are looking for. Here's the full official rules for using Focus:
Focus Action
This expansion introduces a new action that can be performed by any investigator. As an action, an investigator on any space gains one Focus token.
^ An investigator may spend one Focus token to reroll one die when resolving a test. There is no limit to the number of Focus tokens he can spend to reroll dice.
^ An investigator cannot have more than two Focus tokens.
That's it. You can use pennies or anything you want as a proxy Focus token. Still not an automatic success, which does feel potentially imbalancing and contrary to the spirit of the game, but these are like Clues that you don't mind using.
