Mage is 1 of 3 clothers in the game, we can find a lot of different abilities in his kit but is he well designed?I played mage a lot in board game and he reminds me of mage in MMO, he seems too strong, at least in my opinion. He's weak early on but gets much stronger with each level, he gains tons of dices from abilities, he has plenty of skills that reduce threat value which means he can hit with even more dices.
Mage can be;
-Fire
-Frost
-Arcane
In MMO mage had only 1 role, to deal a lot of damage, as much as possible, the only differents between his traits were the type of damage he dealt, and few core spells which he could use in any specialization anyway. In board game he seems similar, unfortunately. The problem with mage is that there's big difference in usefulness of the abilities and talents of same level, which means most of his spells and talents seem to be on same level, but there's 1 or 2 that is just much better than any previous which means there's no point in taking other rather than going same build over and over again.
I don't like it at all, it means instead of taking different ways, experimenting with different spells and talents combinations we're left with same build, because there's literally no point in trying and discovering new strategies when you definitely won't perform that well.
As for other classes I believe you can try to mix spells and talents and still be useful, fulfil other role, bring new things to the table and gameplay. You read his kit and "this is good, this is cool but THAT IS DAMN POWERFUL" which speaks for itself, the big gap between spells and talents of same level.
It seems like Fire is more attrition oriented, Frost is more about green dices and threat value reduction and Arcane is...don't even know, most of spells and talents from this tree is terrible or not worth picking over other abilities. Overall I like to play this glasscannon class but I don't enjoy it as much as playing other characters.
What are your thoughts about this class?
