I think some people are getting a bit of clouded judgement from anecdotal experience. Immune to Fear is great against, let's say, 2 leader creatures and mostly in Copper (IMO). Well, so what? I mean, its not useful 100% of the time therefore its not a great ability even if when it does come up it comes up big. Its a probability of effectiveness we're talking about afterall.I also disagree about negating the extra dice issue if he goes first. That doesn't solve anything. Ideally, heroes should kill each figure they hit and any time you have to double up attackers its a bad thing (bosses kinda notwithstanding). I can think of a lot of times a tough boss or enemy had maybe its armor depleted or come down to low wounds. A hero spends some fatigue in a situation where he knows it is just pure added damage to eke out that kill and he does. That's excellent play. Having a second hero waste his full attack on something that only had one or two wounds left (and the second hero isn't guaranteed to do any damage, with a fatigue boost they would at least be past the armor) isn't, not in my eyes at least. Everyone has been burnt by the critical miss at the worst times, and spending fatigue to get nearly guaranteed damage is fantistic, and if you don't get enough sometimes you can do it even again. I would wager this scenario is at least 5x more likely than an entire party being stumped by Fear or Ice.
And I might add, nobody here is saying Karnon is awful. He's workable, but I agree he is definitely not optimal. His lack of strategic value doesn't really compensate for a once in a rare while ability.
But hey, at least its not Aurim.
